Weight Loss Programs

Weight Loss ProgramsAs experts in medical weight loss, we customize a program to your body composition and lifestyle. We realize that everyone is different, and there is no one size fits all diet plan.

ANY diet that restricts calories can help you lose weight. However, many popular diets do not contain adequate protein, and therefore the majority of the weight lost is muscle tissue, or lean body mass. The loss of lean body mass is the main reason that most diets fail, because your metabolism slows down. At Texas Medical Wellness, we are only interested in helping you lose FAT tissue. Your program will be designed for YOU and YOUR BODY COMPOSITION, and we will make sure that you lose fat while retaining your muscle mass. This is the only way that you can achieve permanent weight loss.

We begin with a through history and physical exam. This is followed by an analysis of your body composition using a precision bio-impedance scale. This scientific scale gives us much more than a number: it tells us how much of your weight is muscle, how much is water, and how much is fat. It also calculates your metabolic rate at various activity levels, so we can tell you how many calories you need to maintain your weight, or lose weight. The body composition analysis is used to determine your optimal and achievable body weight, and it helps us guide your progress. You will have your body composition checked at every visit

Weight LossNext we help you put together a weight loss plan that will work for you. Plans range from Dr. Simeon’s HCG diet at 600-700 calories per day, up to plans of 2400 calories day. Diets can be essentially total liquid meal replacements, normal store food plus nutritional products, or simply normal store food. The choice is determined by how much weight you need to lose, how fast you want to lose it, your own personal dietary preferences, and most importantly the safety of the plan.

Many  patients elect to follow the hCG diet  initially as it does promote rapid weight loss.  hCG is the same appetite suppressant used by the Dr. TED diet.   While patients do have the ability to lose 40 pounds in 40 days we find that the loss is often dependent on starting weight and how much weight the patient needs to lose. We find weight loss for the average patient is more in the 4-6 pounds-per-week range.

As medical doctors, we also work with your primary care doctor to manage any medical conditions that you have as a result of being overweight. If you suffer from high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, metabolic syndrome, sleep apnea or joint pain, these problems may be resolved as you lose weight; we will make sure that your primary care physician is informed of your progress, so he or she may adjust any medications as needed.

We will discuss the use of prescription medications such as FDA-approved appetite suppressants, fat absorption inhibitors, multi-vitamins, natural supplements which act as fat-burners, medications and supplements that enhance the action of insulin to prevent fat gain, and other naturally occurring supplements that compliment appetite control and aid in calorie burning. Multi-vitamins and EFA, or essential fatty acids containing fish oil, are highly recommended.

Monitoring is crucial to any successful weight loss program. No matter which weight-loss plan we eventually choose together, close follow-up is essential. At these follow-up visits we will reassess your body composition (muscle, fat, water) to make sure that the weight coming off is mostly fat. If you are losing too much muscle mass, we will re-evaluate and change your plan so that your muscle mass is preserved.

Education is the key to success. During your treatment you will be taught which foods are better and which should be avoided, what metabolism is all about (and how to increase yours), the importance of regular meals, and the value of eating the right combination of macronutrients (protein, carbohydrates, and fats). Our goal is to be able to send you out at the end of your weight-loss journey with the knowledge and tools to keep your new body. Keep in mind that after you have completed your program, we would love to see you back periodically to check and see how you are doing.
